Magdalena Otto

Magdalena Otto is currently working on her dissertation about citizen participation in urban neighbourhood development focussing on Berlin (Germany) and Minneapolis (USA).

Working at the “Berliner Institut für empirische Integrations- and Migrationsforschung” at the Humboldt University of Berlin before, she was analysing experiences of discrimination in Germany in two different mixed-methods research projects.

Magdalena Otto studied Sociology, Political Science, Administration and Spanish Philology at Humboldt University of Berlin, University of Potsdam and Technische Universität Berlin. She is holding a Master’s degree in Social Sciences. In her Master’s thesis she raised the question of why people of apparently privileged status groups feel discriminated by affirmative action.

Main research interests are social inequality and integration, perception of discrimination, and the fields of Urban Sociology and Interpretative Sociology.
