4th International Workshop on Writing Words
University of Potsdam is delighted to invite international researchers to the "Writing Words Workshop 2023" (WWW 2023) on written word production. The ability to write is a fundamental skill in modern societies, and individuals are spending more and more time in a written (rather than spoken) language environment. Educational and psychological research on written production (handwriting, typing, and texting) is now booming, with a rising number of publications exploring various mental aspects of orthographic production, and the prospect of major theoretical progress.
The idea for the Writing Words Workshop germinated at the symposium "Studies on handwritten word generation: Which models and methodologies?" at the conference "Writing Research Across Borders" (WRAB) in Paris, France, in 2014. Researchers from various countries presented their work and discussed the latest scientific advances on writing. Hence, the idea was born to hold a biennial workshop, dedicated exclusively to the investigation of orthographic language production. The first Writing Words Workshop was then held at University of Poitiers, France, in July 2015 with great success, with approximately 50 attendants and a highly diverse program. The second and third editions took place at the University of Bristol, UK, in July 2017 and at the University of Marseille, France, in June 2019, respectively.
The fourth edition was originally thought to take place at University of Potsdam, Germany, from July 7 - 9, 2021 (WWW 2021). Due to COVID-19, it had to be postponed to July 12 - 14, 2023 to enable an in-person meeting. As the COVID-19 situation may remain dynamic, there might be some changes of plans. However, we will give our very best to find appropriate measures to make an in-person meeting possible.
We hope that you will enjoy the WWW 2023 at University of Potsdam!
