Linguistics: Empirical and Theoretical Foundations (ETF)
Notes on the admission requirements
The MSc Linguistics: Empirical and Theoretical Foundations is designed as a consecutive program which builds on linguistic background knowledge acquired in a BA/BSc in theoretical linguistics or a closely related field. For admission, 90 credit points (or 50% of the total points in the Bachelor's degree) in one or more of the following domains are required: linguistic theory (theories of syntax, morphology, semantics, pragmatics, phonology), computational linguistics, psycholinguistics and/or neurolinguistics. In exceptional cases, the examination board can also admit students with less credit points. To be considered for exceptional admission, proof of at least 60 credit points or 10 courses in the domains listed above are required. Credit points acquired in the domain of applied language learning / teaching / translation are not considered towards admission.
In addition, a proof of English language proficiency corresponding to level B2 is required. The following certificates are accepted: UNIcert (II), TOEFL (75 points), First Certificate in English (grade B), IELTS (5.0 points in every section), a university degree in a program that was officially and completely taught in English (English as the teaching language has to be noted on the degree certificate), a German school graduation certificate (deutsche Hochschulreife: Abitur or Fachabitur) listing English as a subject, or a school graduation certificate from a country with English as the official language.
