International Research and Exchange
The overall objective of this module is to enables students to reflect on the international dimension of their academic life as well as the larger cultural context within which they act. The four essay tasks of this module are further designed to focus on personal, socio-cultural and conceptual aspects of modernities in the actual present.Accordingly students write on personal experiences of transcultural phenomena and processes; on the similarities and differences of university systems and practices in two countries; and on the actual relevance for the socio-cultural present of one key concept from the field of modernity studies.

Assessment
The module (9 credit points) can be completed in three different modes, each of which is tailored for a specific group of students.
a) reflections on a semester spent abroad in the course of the MA programme:
particularly recommended for students who have acquired their BA degree at a German university
b) reflections on studying at the University of Potsdam and living in Germany:
alternative option only for students who have acquired their BA degree at a university outside Germany
c) reflections on the sustained interaction with an international student:
alternative option for students who have acquired their BA degree at a German university but cannot spend a semester abroad in the course of the MA programme
Your work is to be undertaken as an independent study.
In order to successfully complete it, you should
- carefully read the instructions provided here and
- contact the module convenor Dirk Wiemann during his consultation hours in case of any further questions
You must
- submit a portfolio of four essays of 10.000 words in total written over an extended period of time and
- register for the module on PULS (PULS code 263601; Prüfer Anke Bartels)
Once you have uploaded the entire portfolio of four essays and registered for the module, you need to notify Dirk Wiemann of your submission via email: dwiemann@uni-potsdam.de. Please also submit your papers to Prof. Dirk Wiemann! In addition to your hardcopy send a PDF or Word file to dwiemann@uni-potsdam.de
