Workshop "Leveraging MATLAB to Access, Analyze, and Disseminate Climate Data and Workflows"

Overview: In this workshop, we will demonstrate how to use MATLAB to access, process, visualize and share global climate (precipitation) data from the WCRP CMIP6 database. The workflow will cover topics such as exploring and importing open data centralized in popular databases (NASA, ECMWF, USGS etc), filtering and manipulating data in various formats, performing statistical analysis, mapping and visualizing the results. Finally, we will cover different ways of making results open and accessible for the community including reviewers in keeping with FAIR standards. An example that will be demonstrated is published in GitHub, more information can be found in the README file.

Highlights:

- Work with freely available popular global climate data.
- Use MATLAB tools to interactively analyze and visualize data in various ways.
- Make results open and accessible to the community.
- Who Should Attend

This workshop is for researchers in all stages of their careers, from student to experienced professors, who want to make their results open and accessible for the community by following FAIR principles.

About the Presenter

Kostas Leptokaropoulos is Academic Manager for Geoscience at MathWorks, located in Cambridge, UK. His role is to support Academics and Scientists with their teaching and research activities, by taking full advantage of the tools and capabilities that MATLAB offers. Kostas is an Environmental Engineer holding a PhD in Geophysics and Seismology. He has worked on several European-scale Scientific and Research Infrastructure projects, such as EPOS and SERA. Before joining MathWorks Kostas worked at the University of Southampton where he keeps a Visiting Research Fellow position.

Shubo Chakrabarti manages integrations with Science Gateways and research infrastructures at MathWorks. Shubo is a PhD in Neuroscience and, before joining MathWorks, worked as a neuroscientist at several Universities across the US and Europe.
