In March 2013, the Netherlands Institute of Government will offer a course for PhD students on the theme of Europeanization. The course will be held in Utrecht, 25-28 March 2013.
The course will deal with the Europeanization of politics, polities, and policies/law, as well as conceptual, theoretical, and methodological issues. Besides lectures about and high-level group discussion on the state of the art in Europeanization research, it will offer ample opportunity for discussion of PhD research proposals or papers in the field of Europeanization.
It is organized by dr. Esther Versluis (Maastricht University), dr. Anna van der Vleuten, and dr. Ellen Mastenbroek (both Radboud University Nijmegen) and will host various expert guest lecturers.
More specifically, the following topics will be covered:
- Europeanization: conceptual questions
- Theories and puzzles: state of the art
- Methodological issues
- Parliament and political parties
- Interest groups
- The executive
- Courts
- Financial-economic policy
- Environmental policy
- Justice and Home Affairs, with the emphasis on migration
- Europeanization beyond Europe
- Compliance with EU law: Beyond enforcement
Given its multidisciplinary character, the course may be of interest to students from a broad range of disciplines, such as European studies, political science, public administration, (European) law, policy sciences, environmental sciences and spatial planning.
