Dr. Jinshan Zhu
Dr. Jinshan Zhu is a lawyer and economist with an engineering background. He got his PhD of comparative law and economics from University Turin, Italy. He holds a master degree of law and economics and a master degree of environmental engineering from Hamburg University and Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, respectively. He has worked as a Humboldt research fellow at the Chair of International Politics at the University of Potsdam, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt foundation. His research focus is law and economic analysis of accidental costs of climate engineering. This research applies law and economic theory with regards to the potential accidental costs of climate engineering. Besides, he keeps an active focus on the carbon governance as well as institutional innovation for environmental protection in the developing world.
Before working with University Potsdam, he served as visiting scholar at Cornell Law School. He has also been working as project manager (intern) at UNEP Finance Initiative, research assistant to chief engineer at Chair of waste management of Technical University Hamburg-Harburg, and guest researcher at Potsdam Institute for climate impact research as well as Leibniz- Institute of Agricultural Enginering, Bornim.
Jinshan has published articles in both natural science journals (Environmental Research Letters, and Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change) and social science journals (European Journal of Law and Economics, and Journal of Environmental Planning and Management). He speaks Chinese (mother tongue), English (fluent), Germany (intermediate), and Japanese (basic). Since 2015, he holds a membership at China Society of Comparative Law.
