Concept
You are coming to Potsdam as a guest scholar, and it is your first time in Germany or Potsdam. At the beginning of your stay, you must take care of a lot of things, such as opening a bank account, getting a telephone connection, and finding a reasonably-priced supermarket.
The Welcome Center Potsdam assists and advises you regarding all administrative and social issues. If you would like to have a personal supporter and contact to a Potsdamer to assist you, then please partake in our sponsorship programme!For these purposes, committed Potsdamers interested in meeting, welcoming, and helping you have joined up with the Welcome Center Potsdam.
Through participation in our sponsorship programme, you will have the opportunity to learn of many practical tips and tricks for your everyday life in Potsdam and perhaps even a glimpse into ‘German Culture.’ With your sponsor, you will also be able to participate in activities together and, in doing so, exchange views about cultural differences and learn from one-another.
It is for you to decide how you want to organise your contacts with your sponsor. The range is wide: your sponsor may be able to pick you up from the airport or train station, go with you to the authorities, and maybe drink a coffee with you, show you around Potsdam, or go to cultural events with you.
Realisation
Before your arrival in Potsdam, we will send you an e-mail with the contact information of your sponsor. This way, you can already contact your sponsor before you come to Potsdam. In the case that contact with your sponsor does not happen, then we will gladly find you another sponsor.
Here are some examples of how your sponsor can assist you:
• pick you up from the train station or airport;
• accompany you to the authorities;
• provide you information about everyday life in Potsdam; and
• give you information regarding events taking place.
Here are some examples of activities in which you and your sponsor can partake:
• joint excursions;
• pub visits;
• assistance organising sports and cultural events; and
• dining together.
These activities are not required and can be arranged individually. The Welcome Center Potsdam accompanies and assists the sponsorships.
Registration
Please let us know if you are interested in participating in the sponsorship programme. You are also welcome to give us some information regarding your desired sponsor (gender, age, etc.).
Even if you have already begun your research stay in Potsdam, you are welcome to register for a sponsor at any time.
The sponsorship programme is supported by  Exploratorium Potsdam, Naturkundemuseum Potsdam, Biosphäre Potsdam, Filmpark Babelsberg GmbH, Kongresshotel am Templiner See, Mittelbrandenburgische Sparkasse in Potsdam and Kleines Schloss im Park Babelsberg.
